Department of Security and Strategic Studies

The Department of Security and Strategic Studies (ISS) is characterised by being an academic environment with unique competencies. At this department, students are partly educated within the framework of the military programmes and partly in individual civlian programmes. The department, which comprises five sections and two centres, is directed by the Head of department, colonel Jan Mörtberg.


Research and education is carried out in the following fields

Security policy

War studies with a military-strategic bias

Political science with a bias towards crisis management and international cooperation

International law with a focus on the international law of military operations
