Center for Asymmetric Threat Studies (CATS)

CATS focuses on asymmetric threats in the Information Age. This primarily includes Information Operations focusing on terrorism, including "functional" terrorism (targets, means, methods). CATS carries out project work for, among others, the Cabinet Office, the Armed Forces and the Swedish Emergency Management Agency.

Centre for Military Technology (MTC)

The Centre for Military Technology is a joint venture by the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and the Swedish National Defence College. The Centre gathers expertise from both institutions in order to put this expertise to best use in developing new activities and conducting joint research in areas of common interest.

CRISMART

The National Centre for Crisis Management and Training (CRISMART) is part of the Swedish National Defence College in Stockholm and focuses on the development of knowledge and expertise and providing education in the field of national and international crisis management. This is a subject covering many sectors of society and often requires civil-military cooperation.

European Security Research Programme

This Programme deals with research and studies into EU security and crisis management. One of the primary aims of the Programme is to study the EU's capabilities and limitations in dealing with crises that threaten its fundamental values, societal functions and citizens - both within and outside EU territory. One of the objectives is to present research-based policy recommendations concerning EU crisis management capabilities.

Stockholm Forum for Security Studies (SFSS)

Stockholm Forum for Security Studies brings together researchers with a focus on security and security policy in a wide sense. Emphasis is on linkages between national and international security; societal security and political security; security, democratization and development; security sector reform (SSR); security, civil rights and private integrity; civilian and military relations; and the larger trends of globalization and fragmentation in world affairs. Via cross-institutional research groups, and annual conferences, our goal is to strengthen collaboration between security researchers in Sweden and elsewhere in the world.

The International Law Centre

The International Law Centre of the Swedish National Defence College is conducting research into the international legal aspects of military operations and is responsible for the education in this area within the various programmes of the SNDC. The International Law Centre focuses in its research and teaching on the law regulating the use of force (ius ad bellum), the law of peace operations, the law of armed conflict (ius in bello), human rights in armed conflict, peace operations and other situations of crisis, and the law of international responsibility in military operations.

Besides producing research and teaching, the ILC is engaging in activities aimed at informing the wider public and policy debate through the organization of events.
