The President of Estonia and Sweden's Minister for Foreign Affairs visited the SNDC
19 January 2011
On January 19, the President of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves and the Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt, visited the Swedish National Defence College. They participated in the seminar "International Cyber Security - How could Estonia and Sweden contribute?". The President's participation in the seminar is part of a state visit.
About the seminar
Cyberspace is the latest sphere of communication. It's binding together people and societies and allows for an exchange of ideas, money and technology on a global level. The modern information society is dependent on cyberspace for the functioning of its infrastructure and production of goods and services.
Despite its fundamental importance it is also the most immature system, lacking international regulations and institutions. Its structure creates a challenge to the conventional thinking, blurring the line between private and public authority. Estonia and Sweden are prominent actors on the international arena in the debate on cyber security.
The seminar explores the latest developments in the area of threats in cyberspace and the efforts to protect the individuals and society from hostile actors.
Webcast
Please note that due to a delay in the Estonian delegation's program, the seminar started later than announced. The seminar starts about 24 minutes into the webcast below. There is also some problems with the sound for about five minutes during Mr. Per Hellqvist's presentation. We apologize for this.
