Conference and winter school on humanitarian law in military operations

Conference and winter school on Convergence and Conflicts of Human Rights and International and Humanitarian Law in Military Operations, Pretoria, South Africa, 20 August - 1 September 2012.

The International Law Centre of the Swedish National Defence College, in cooperation with the Institute for International and Comparative Law in Africa at the University of Pretoria, and with the financial support of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), will hold the second of two conferences and winter schools on the Convergence and Conflicts of Human Rights and International and Humanitarian Law in Military Operations.

Winter School

The winter school is directed at 30 participants (15 South Africans and 15 Swedes) and will be held at the University of Pretoria from 20 August until 30 August.

Apply to the winter school

Out of the 15 seats reserved for Swedish participants, 3 will be awarded in an open application process. Applicants for the winter school from Sweden should send their applications to winterschoolihl&hrl [at] fhs.se.

Applications must contain

  • a letter of motivation (max. 500 words)
  • the curriculum vitae
  • a letter of recommendation from e.g. an (academic) supervisor or someone who is familiar with the applicant's professional merits.

Successful applicants will benefit from a full scholarship that covers travel and accommodation expenses.

The application deadline was 15 June 2012 and applications are no longer accepted.

Conference

The conference will be hosted at the University of Pretoria on 31 August and 1 September 2012.
