Welcome. I am a Senior Lecturer in War Studies at the Swedish National Defense College. Prior joining SNDC, I was a Marie Curie Fellow at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University and an International Security Fellow at the Belfer Centre for Sciences and International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School. I received my Ph.D. from the European University Institute in May 2010.

Areas of research and education

My research interests lie at the cross-road between political science and sociology with a specific focus on military organizations. I am interested in military cultures and frames, cross-national variations in operational styles, civil-military coordination, non-conventional military operations (such as peace operations and humanitarian rescue) and military effectiveness. I study these themes mainly through qualitative empirical research (ethnography and comparative case study research) and, to a lesser extent, via survey analysis.

I teach courses and supervise students at the Swedish National Defence College; at Uppsala University and at Sciences Po in Paris. I would be keen to hear from prospective PhD students in my areas of expertise.
