Klara is a student at the Master’s Programme in Defence and Security Systems Development. You can use the questionnaire on this page to ask her your questions about what it is like to study at the programme and at the Swedish Defence University, SEDU.
Why did you choose to study at SEDU and why this master’s programme?
I was actually just looking to do a free-standing course at SEDU at first, but then a friend suggested I should check out this program. It seemed very interesting and suitable for my background, so I applied!
What are the best aspects of your programme?
For me, the best aspects of the programme has been the opportunity to gain knowledge in fields that are in some ways connected to my previous experience, but that are still completely new to me. I feel like my competence is developing, and I’m gaining a better overall perspective.
What are some of your favourite courses so far?
My favourite courses have been Leadership within the Officers’ Profession for Engineers, and Cyberoperations in antagonistic environments.
What is it like to study at SEDU?
I would say it’s interesting and rewarding. I enjoy the mix of students at the university and also the connection to the defence industry. Extra-curricular lectures and talks are frequently held which I think is really good for someone who is eager to learn more.
What do you want to do after graduating?
I haven’t decided if I should go back to my old job as a marine engineer for a while, to gain some more experience. Or if I should take the leap and go ashore and hopefully find a job that connects what I learned at SEDU with my previous seagoing experience.
What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing SEDU for master’s studies?
Read up on which programme you’re interested in and take the opportunity to connect with students and teachers who can answer your questions and give you a better feel for how the programme is. Lastly, I would say go for it!
