Leadership research at the SEDU focuses on contributing to general knowledge development and responding to sector-specific needs, such as the Swedish Armed Forces and officers profession, but also civilian actors' needs.
The framework for leadership research is leadership under stressful conditions. Leadership in social efforts, nationally and internationally, in connection with crisis, war, armed conflict and extraordinary events place high demands on operational leadership. Within the subject, the leadership role is studied from several academic perspectives: pedagogy, psychology, sociology and political science.
The research ranges from individual to group and organisation to society, highlighting leadership conditions prior to, during and after efforts, especially considering the contextual conditions at different hierarchical levels. The chosen focus includes, among other things, a more traditional academic knowledge ("about" the subject) and partly a skills-enhancing part ("in" the subject).
Research at the Centre for Leadership concerns leadership under stressful conditions, leadership development and staffing in the officers profession.
