Academic ceremonies
The Swedish Defence University conducts several ceremonies each year, such as the graduation ceremony and the academic ceremony.
The Swedish Defence University rests on a 200-year-old tradition of military education and studies of war, conflict, crisis and societal security. At the same time, we are a young university: In 2008, the Swedish Defence University became a university under the Ministry of Education and Research, and from 2018 we have the right to award degrees at all academic levels.
Academic Ceremony
The Swedish Defence University has, in various forms, held an annual academic ceremony where this year's professors, associate professors, PhDs and laureates are honoured. In connection with the first dissertations from the Swedish Defence University's own research programmes, regular conferment and inauguration of professors will be carried out. In 2024, the ceremony will be held on 22 November at the City Hall for specially invited guests.
The ceremony includes the following parts:
- Inauguration of professors
- New Associate Professors
- Conferment including honorary doctorates
- Laureates and medalists
In this ceremony, we highlight the following prizes and awards:
