Media reports concerning convicted student

Since yesterday (Monday, 24 August), media reports have emerged concerning a person who has been convicted of, among other offences, violating the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods, and who is or has been a student at the Swedish Defence University.

The matter is being handled by the judicial authorities. The Security Department became aware of the case through media coverage and immediately investigated the information. The following has been confirmed:

• The person has been sentenced by the district court to five years’ imprisonment.
• The person remains in custody pending the commencement of their prison sentence. However, the judgment may be appealed.
• The person is or has been enrolled with us as a civilian higher education student but is not currently registered on any course.

The preliminary investigation contains no information about any intended target. There is therefore nothing to indicate that other students, members of staff or the Swedish Defence University as an organisation were targeted. The Security Department is monitoring the case.
