Documents for Doctoral Studies

Here you will find regulations, support and governing documents that affect doctoral education. Some of the documents are not yet available in English version.

Start

Here you will find documents and rules that govern the announcement of doctoral student positions, the admission of doctoral students and support in how the process works. There are also rules for what happens when a doctoral student who has started their studies at another university is transferred to SEDU.

Study plans

Each third-cycle subject has a General Syllabus (ASP) that regulates the content and design of the programme. If they are updated, the old versions will also remain as long as there are doctoral students admitted to them. All doctoral students who wish to do so can request to be transferred to the latest version of. If you want to know the difference between the different versions, please contact your subject's director of studies.

Courses

At each higher education institution, there are rules for how courses are developed and how the course syllabi should be designed. If you have taken courses before the start of the education, they can in some cases be transferred, rules for this can be found here. Reading courses are handled using a simplified procedure, through a form that can be found here. For all documents, English versions are under preparation.

Employment and Funding

Here you will find overall decisions concerning various aspects of the employment itself. Among other things, there are rules for the extension of doctoral studentship, including the handling of positions of trust, withdrawal of resources, departmental duties and the doctoral students' salary scale. In addition, there is the Vice-Chancellor's overall decision on the number of doctoral student places per subject.

In training

The number of hours of supervision per year is regulated as well as the requirements for examiners. There is also a form for changing supervisors.

Dissertation

A public defence of a doctoral thesis must be planned well in advance. The Research and Education Board appoints the examining committee based on a proposal from the scientific council, and the Head of Research determines the time and place. There is also information about the thesis itself, a checklist that everyone who is in any way involved in the public defence of the thesis can use, as well as a template for the examining committee's minutes and decisions on the management of costs.

External funding ("external doctoral student")

An externally employed doctoral student is a doctoral student who retains his or her regular employment but where the employer allows the person to devote his or her time to doctoral studies. This is then regulated by an agreement. Here you will find an agreement template and a document with information about what this means. Both the template and the document are available in both Swedish and English.

Overall

Here is a document that describes the responsibilities and division of roles between the dean, directors of studies and those responsible for doctoral students.
