Increase your visibility

To gain greater exposure to publications and yourself as a researcher, it´s a good idea to reflect on how you make your research visible and collect through a researcher ID or platforms that compile your work. ResearcherID is also important in the work of linking the correct research publication to the correct author.

The library has produced information regarding platforms and services that provide the opportunity to create a personal page to, for example, compile employment, research, education, assignments, etc. A researcher ID is unique and follows you as an author when changing your name, changing workplace or to distinguish you from other researchers with the same or similar name.

You can find more information about different platforms and services below.

ORCID (Open Research and Contributor ID) is a digital ID number for researchers that is used in publishing and grant applications. The registry is run by a non-profit organization of the same name.

ORCID makes it possible to distinguish researchers from each other with unique ID numbers. The system also serves as a platform where researchers can compile their employments, publications, educations, assignments, awards, etc. In other words, all CV-relevant information in one place. The information can be exported, shared, or displayed in different ways.

Through Google Scholar, you can create an author profile where you link your publications. With a registered profile, a user can search for you as an author and take part in a list of your publications. The profile also provides the opportunity to see how your work has been cited and information about the h-index.

An advantage of an author profile on Google Scholar is that the search results are generally larger than in paid databases, in that a researcher can collect publications in different languages or from other publishers that are not indexed by citation or reference databases. The data is thus also available to people who do not have access to licensed search services as they can access your publication list or publications that are open access.

When working with the author profile, it is easiest to manually link publications to your profile. The platform also has automatic updates, which can be good to review if they are not always completely correct.

ResearcherID is used as a researcher ID in the Web of Scince database, to identify researchers whose publications are indexed in the database. Web of Science has different types of citation analyses, which strengthens your authorship as the publications are linked to the right researchers. You also have the option to link your ORCID profile to link work from other websites.

You can find the registration link on the Web of Science start page:

There are also services that can be likened to social networks aimed at academies and researchers active in most research disciplines. Several scientific organisations also use scientific platforms to create meeting places, space for collaborations and networks between researchers in contexts such as conferences or other projects.
