Lecture: Uncomfortable comparisons. Understanding Israel/Palestine through the prism of Algerian (de)colonisation

The Student Union will continue with its lecture series on the conflict in the Middle East. This lecture is given by Rouzbeh Parsi – Head of the Middle East and North Africa Programme (UI). The lecture will be held in English.

While the conflict and history of Israel/Palestine has its own specificities, there are striking parallels to the arc of French colonisation of Algeria and its bloody war of liberation.

It is a messy and bloody story with no clear cut heroes — and thus more historically representative for how such conflicts are created and "resolved". What in the two cases can we compare and what can learn from that comparison?
