Team “Okänd patrull” Wins the 2025 Wargame Tournament

After an even and exciting finish, team Okänd patrull (Unknown Patrol) was crowned the winner of this year's wargame tournament in operational art and tactics.

For four days in November, the annual wargame tournament was held at the Swedish Defence University. This time, the tournament drew inspiration from the Finnish Winter War 1939-40. The game was based on a military-historical combat scenario between the Soviet Union and Finland.

Two game tables were set up in the Swedish Defence University mess hall and the teams drew lots to determine whether they would play as the Soviet Union or Finland.

Among the 16 participating teams, it was ultimately Okänd patrull who claimed victory with a two-point margin.

Everyone who studies and works at the Swedish Defence University was invited to compete in teams of two to three people. The game is a classic board game involving dice and various tiles representing different types of units, placed on the board’s hexagonal spaces that together form the battlefield. The game was developed by teachers at the Swedish Defence University’s Centre for Wargaming.
