Welcome to a webinar based on the Routledge Handbook of US Foreign Policy in the Indo-Pacific.
Home to around 60 percent of the world’s population, most of the world’s largest and fastest- growing economies, and a complicated web of unresolved tensions, the Indo- Pacific is one of the most dynamic and contested regions on Earth. US strategy there has evolved over centuries, with its physical presence going broadly unchallenged since at least the middle of the last century. However, the rapid development and expanding influence of China, alongside the growth of other states in the region, mean that the US has come to occupy a newly uncertain position and perceive a range of unfamiliar challenges.
In 33 newly-commissioned chapters from leading experts in the field, The Routledge Handbook of US Foreign Policy in the Indo-Pacific, edited by Oliver Turner, Nicola Nymalm, and Wali Aslam, explores how the US has managed, and continues to manage, its regional history, and how it approaches the modern-day landscape of an Indo- Pacific.
In this webinar, two of the handbook’s editors are joined by three international scholars and experts on US foreign policy in the Indo-Pacific. They will discuss the contributions of the book in connection to the emerging challenges concerning US policy in the region.
