Women in the Karenni Armed Resistance Movement

Maw Day Myar is the Secretary General of the Karenni State Consultative Council (KSCC). She will discuss women and gender in Karenni’s armed resistance movement. The event will be held in English.
Day Myar will reflect on current efforts to integrate gender policies in new local governance arrangements in Myanmar and their relationship to new and old non-state armed groups in the context of the military coup.
Maw Day Myar is general secretary of Karenni State Consultative Council (KSCC). She is a member of the Karenni National Women's Organization (KNWO) and represents Karenni women's organizations in KSCC since 2023. In 2017, she was elected as a member of the Secretariat of Women’s League of Burma (WLB) and served for three years as Joint General Secretary. Prior to that, her experience included working with different international organization such as Actionaid, Oxfam, International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), and International Media Support (IMS) in various positions. She holds a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English and also a Master's degree from Chiang Mai University in Social Science. Her thesis was focused on the impact of patriarchy and militarism for Karenni women.
