Dr Jamie j. Hagen, Lecturer in Global Politics, University of Manchester, School of Social Sciences lectures on the theme "Queers for Peace: Sites of Transnational and Coalitional Solidarity".

Queer feminist organizing has played a significant role in women’s peacebuilding work, including anti-war and abolitionist organizing. These contributions from lesbian, queer and trans people as a part of organizing against war continue are rarely highlighted in narratives of feminist peace/building.

More about the lecture

In feminist killjoy solidarity, this lecture recognizes, celebrates, and learns from queer resistance, justice and joy, both past and present. This lecture will consider sites of solidarity and collaboration in anti-war organizing as opportunities for understanding what it means for queers to organize for peace, and how this relates to the concept of queer/ing peace. Some of the sites considered will include organizing under the banner Queers for Palestine, Dykes Against Nuke and Queers for Economic Justice, all situated in different geographies over the last 25 years. As such, this lecture takes seriously how lesbian, bisexual, and transgender women contribute to peace, and have always been a part of transnational organizing for gender justice.
