Book launch: Feminist and decolonial perspectives on Colombia's peace agreement

Ett bokomslag med en bild av en kvinna som håller i ett paraply.

Welcome to an open panel to the launch of the book Ten Years After Havana: Feminist and Decolonial Analyses of the Implementation of Colombia's Peace Agreement, edited by Priscyll Anctil Avoine (Swedish Defence University) and Sanne Weber (Radboud University).

The forthcoming book is grounded in feminist, decolonial, Indigenous, Afro-descendant, and queer approaches to peace implementation, and aims to go beyond quantitative assessments of peace provisions.

On the occasion of the launch of Ten Years After Havana, researchers and some of the book's chapter authors will reflect on the implementation of one of the world's most acclaimed peace agreements, signed in November 2016 between the government of Juan Manuel Santos and the guerrilla group Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC-EP).

The 2016 peace agreement was hailed as one of the most advanced in its gender and ethnic approach and is widely cited as an international example for future peace processes. Yet, a decade later, how has this ambitious peace agreement materialised in the lived realities of those affected by the armed conflict? How do civil society actors, feminist and LGBTIQ+ organisations, and ex-FARC-EP implement the gender provisions in their daily work for peace? What lessons have been learned, and what challenges remain in building peace amid the reconfiguration of armed violence?

More about the book

Using feminist and decolonial critical approaches, the book shows the gap between thoughtful, comprehensive, and inclusive policies and their actual implementation. It provides much-needed evidence of how these policies are actually implemented, offering a compelling example for other peace processes worldwide. The book combines strong theoretical feminist and decolonial engagement with in-depth empirical data from leading experts in peacebuilding in Colombia. Its chapters provide a thorough analysis of sustainable peace, foregrounding the contributions of ethnic groups, women, and LGBTQI+ communities. By including reflections from both scholars and practitioners, the book appeals to academic, policymaking, and practitioner audiences.
