Ulrika Bennerstedt holds a PhD in Education and is a Senior Lecturer at the Swedish Defence University, Department of War Studies, and a member of the Centre for Wargaming. Her research concerns learning, decision-making, and leadership in professional practices. Using conversation and interaction analysis, she examines how knowledge, responsibility, and coordination are constructed in workplace meetings, command environments, and other contexts where professionals develop shared understandings and make joint decisions.

A second research area focuses on game-based learning and digital learning environments, with particular emphasis on how cadets and officers learn and act in and through wargames and simulated exercises.

Her current research concerns educational wargames, including a review article on empirical studies of learning through wargame use and an empirical study on instructors’ interventions during ongoing games. She also participates in a Forte-funded project addressing professional learning in other organizational contexts.

In teaching, my main work has been supervising students at bachelor’s and advanced levels and supporting courses that use wargames as a learning activity.
