Dr Leena Vastapuu is a Senior Lecturer of War Studies at the Swedish Defence University. Her research spans two main directions: gender, peace, and security in war and its aftermath, with a particular interest in marginalised groups such as child and female soldiers. In addition, Leena investigates preparation for war and everyday militarisation in Finland and across the Nordics.
Leena is currently on a leave of absence from FHS to act as the PI for the HomeFront project (2025–2029), funded by the Research Council of Finland and based at the Tampere Peace Research Institute.
