Lwanga is currently a PhD student in War Studies. He holds a first masters in Peace and Development Studies from Linnaeus University and a second in Political Science from Uppsala University, both in Sweden.
His research interests include: military interventions and peace operations, counterinsurgency, security force assistance relationships, and multinational military operations.
Lwanga's PhD dissertation seeks to explain varying commitments amongst troop contributing countries (TCC) in the context of multinational military operations. He approaches this task by exploring the relationship between TCC interests and reservations on the use of force - caveats - by national troop contingents during operations in the field. Utilising a comparative case study design, the disertation seeks to answer the question: "What explains variations in the use of force amongst similarly sized combat-capable contingents in multinational military operations?"
