Lwanga is currently a PhD student in War Studies. He holds a first masters in Peace and Development Studies from Linnaeus University and a second in Political Science from Uppsala University, both in Sweden.
His research interests include: military interventions and peace operations, counterinsurgency, security force assistance relationships, and multinational military operations.
Lwanga's PhD dissertation seeks to explain variation in the exercise of caveats amongst troop contingents in the context of multinational military operations. He approaches this task by exploring the relationship between troop-contributing country (TCC) rationales and reservations (restrictive and permissive) on the use of force - caveats - by national troop contingents during operations in the field. Utilising a comparative case study design, the disertation seeks to answer the question: "What explains variation in the exercise of caveats amongst similar contingents in multinational military operations?"
