The Certain Conventional Weapons Convention at 40: Evolution, Continued Relevance, Context and Challenges Ahead

The Swedish Defence University and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) is organising a webinar on the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW).

The webinar will seek to take stock of the evolution and continued relevance of the Convention and its Protocols, and to consider the challenges and opportunities that new technologies pose, ahead of the 2021 Review Conference. The webinar will also provide an opportunity to build on the conclusions of the Conference organized by the Swedish Defence University in September 2010 to mark the 30th anniversary of the Convention.

The Conference is aimed at an international audience of representatives of States and of humanitarian and nongovernmental organizations, military personnel and other practitioners, academics, as well as other interested individuals.

QUESTIONS: In addition to the traditional Q&A time reserved for each section, we invite you to submit any questions pertinent to the topics above in advance to: ccw@un.org. Your questions will be shared with the speakers and will be used to inform their presentations and the discussions to follow.
