The disaster-conflict-environmental harm nexus: Complex inequalities

This one-day symposium seeks to gather CNDS fellows and researchers from other institutions and research spaces working at the intersection of disaster, conflict, environmental risk, inequalities and (in)justice to explore synergies among these interrelated fields.

During the event, there will be presentations and film screenings showcasing the theoretical, empirical and methodological diversity within this nexus.

  • 10:05 – 11:00 Keynote presentation by Dr Pınar Dinç (Lund University) on the conflict-environment nexus in the Middle East and beyond.
  • 11:00 – 12:00 Lunch
  • 12:00 – 13:10 Presentation and film screening: Disaster risks, conflict and justice in Turkey's Kurdish region. By Nisan Alici (University of Derby) and Suanne Segovia-Tzompa (Swedish Defence University and CNDS fellow).
  • 13:10 – 13:20 Break
  • 13:20 – 14:30 Presentation and film screening: Land conflicts, environmental risks and resilience in Brazil's Pataxó territory. By Marcia de Camargo (Independent researcher) and Suanne Segovia-Tzompa (Swedish Defence University and CNDS fellow).
  • 14:30 - 15:00 Coffee break
  • 15:00 - 17:00 Writing workshop (*closed activity for CNDS core writing team).
