From combatants and war supporters to peacemakers? Women's participation in political violence and political transitions (gendered transitions)

The main objective of the project is to contribute new knowledge on how women's participation in political violence translates into their participation in political transitions, and how this is influenced by/influences gender norms.

The project will contribute to broadening existing analytical categories and theories by developing new theorization of women's political agency in conflict settings characterized by the presence of non-state armed groups and produce contextualized knowledge in the form of women's lived experiences of political violence and political transitions.

The project contributes to a growing scholarly engagement with the Women Peace and Security Agenda over the past 20 years, analysing the efforts to prevent conflict and address insecurities that disproportionately affect women, feminized bodies, and non-binary people in violent settings.

The project has several research outputs such as: a monograph, two peer-reviewed articles, conference papers, a special issue, policy briefs, podcast episodes and animated documentaries.
