Annette Lyth holds an LL.M. from Stockholm University and a second LL.M. from Lund University/Raoul Wallenberg Institute. She brings over 25 years of professional experience in human rights, child protection, and governance in conflict and post-conflict settings. She has served in diverse contexts including Rwanda, Kosovo, Nepal, Ukraine, Iraq, Afghanistan, and regionally in the CIS and Asia Pacific with the UN and the OSCE.
Her career has focused on documenting and addressing violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, with particular emphasis on conflict-related sexual violence and violations against children. She has led initiatives on transitional justice, justice for children, support to victims of human rights violations, monitoring of detention facilities and trials, as well as institutional reforms to strengthen rule of law and accountability.
Annette’s leadership roles include serving as Head of Field Office for UNAMA in Afghanistan; Senior Women’s Protection Advisor in Iraq; and Chief of Office to the UN Special Representative on Violence against Children in New York. Earlier in her career, she also held positions with UNICEF, UNDP, UN Women, OSCE/ODIHR, and Amnesty International, working on justice reform, anti-trafficking, children in armed conflict, and human rights monitoring.
