Suanne holds a PhD in International Relations from Stockholm University, Sweden, an MSc in Environmental Change and International Development from the University of Sheffield, UK and a BA in International Relations from the Autonomous University of Puebla, Mexico.
Her research focuses on topics linked to global governance, justice and environmental issues. Specific themes include environmental and climate justice, legitimacy and effectiveness in climate and disaster risk governance and the perceptions of and participation in global governance of marginalised non-state actors (e.g., Indigenous Peoples, ethnic groups, women, small-scale farmers, etc.).
Suanne is currently a post-doctoral research fellow seeking to understand the perceptions of justice of marginalised groups towards climate and disaster governance, specifically working with the Pataxó Peoples in Brazil and Kurds in Türkiye.
Simoultaneusly, she works on a project to analyse the just transition in climate and disaster risk governance, particularly at the international level in the UNDRR and the UNFCCC processes.
She has been a representative of FHS at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction organised by the UNDRR in 2025. This role supports Suanne's engagement to outreach activities and science popularisation. In this line of work, she has also provided technical expertise to the NELs (non-economic losses) group at the UNDRR office.
Suanne is also part of the research hub at the ILL Department affiliated with the CNDS (Centre of Natural Hazards and Disaster Science).
