The library is not staffed but you can reach us via our digital channels.

Due to the pandemic the library is closed to the general public. Students and employees with key card can visit the library. Please keep up with our updates on our web site for current information. (Updated November 5)

Remote access to the electronic library is always open

As a student or employee at Swedish Defence University you can always access the digital resources of the library via our web site.

Reduce risk of infection by considering the protective rules when visiting the library

The library is not staffed but with a key card to Swedish Defence University you can borrow books between 6 AM and 10 PM. We urge all to avoid rush hours. Stay at home if experiencing symptoms and follow the general advice from the Public Health Agency.

If you are a student or employee at Swedish Defence University and are outside of Stockholm county we have the possibility to send you library books by mail. For more information, mail us. alb@fhs.se

You can reach us during the following hours. We will answer your questions Monday to Friday:

  • E-mail: alb@fhs.se. between 9 AM and 3 PM.
  • Our chat service is open weekdays 9 AM to 3 PM except on Tuesdays when the chat is open from noon to 3 PM.
  • Our digital information desk via Zoom is open every weekday. You do not have to book an appointment.

Christmas and New Year´s holidays

From Monday December 21 the library´s digital channels are closed. We will open again on January 7. You can always e-mail us. We will answer this with some delay.

How do you get my library account?

Students at Swedish Defence University do not need to apply for a library account. Employees at Swedish Defence University can apply on our web site. The general public cannot visit the library our apply for a library account for the moment.

Our loan period is 28 days

You can make loan renewals for 28 days at a time until a maximum of 168 days is reached. You can renew you loans by logging on to My loans provided the item is not requested by someone else or the maximum loan period of 168 days is not reached.

Can I return books without a key card?

There are possibilities to do this in place at the university and via mail.

Pick up requested books

Requested books can be picked up and borrowed in the library if you have a key card to the university. They will be placed on a trolly close to the library entrance. The requests are anonymized, the request number in your notification e-mail corresponds to the request number on the slip in the book.

If you do not want to borrow a book you have requested you can let it be on the trolly and we will remove it.

Interlibrary loans

As a student or employee at Swedish Defence University you have the option to request books and articles from other libraries.

  • We will notify you when your ordered book/article can be picked up.
  • It is important that you contact us to make an appointment for pickup. The books must be manually lent out.

Do you need remote tuition in information retrieval or reference handling?

Students and employees have the option to book an appointment for tuition online. Booking request and suggestions about day and time for the tuition you send to alb@fhs.se.

Would you as a teacher wish support in digital tools?

Join the drop-in slots via Zoom to get support and training. You will be met by our IT educators and you can raise issues about remote teaching and digital tools.

The branch library at Karlberg

The branch library is not staffed at the moment. The library is available by key card for students at the Officer Programme. You can borrow and return through the self-service machines.

The library function at the Swedish Armed Forces Headquarters

The library is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The library is only accessible by employees at the Swedish Armed Forces Headquarters.
