Academic Ceremony 2026
The Swedish Defence University's academic ceremony will take place at Stockholm City Hall on Thursday 26 November with the conferment of new doctors and honorary doctors, the inauguration of new professors and presentation of prizes and awards.
Our academic ceremony is celebrated every two years. The first academic ceremony with new doctors who have defended their doctoral theses at the Swedish Defence University's own doctoral programmes was held in 2024.
The ceremony comprises the following elements:
- Inauguration of professors
- New associate professors
- Conferment of doctoral degrees
- Conferment of honorary doctors
- Award ceremony
- Medal ceremony

Our history
From artillery college to university
We have a long tradition of military education. Our roots can be traced back to the Artillery College at Marieberg, founded in 1818.
Officer training in Sweden
The most important task of the Swedish Defence University is to provide officer training at different levels.
Previous ceremonies
We celebrated our first academic ceremony on 22 November 2024, where new doctors from the Swedish Defence University's own doctoral programmes were conferred.
