Dennis Gyllensporre receives the Order of the Sword for his leadership skills

Lieutenant General Dennis Gyllensporre, associate professor and researcher at the Department of Political Science at the Swedish Defence University, has been awarded the highest class of the Order of the Sword for his efforts in Mali.

For the first time in almost 50 years, the Royal Orders of Knighthood have been awarded to Swedes for exceptional contributions.

Lieutenant General Dennis Gyllensporre, associate professor and researcher at the Department of Political Science at the Swedish Defence University, is one of the thirteen Swedes to be awarded. He receives the highest class of the Order of the Sword - Commander Grand Cross - for outstanding leadership in war-like conditions in Mali.

Dennis Gyllensporre was the Commander of the UN military operation in Mali from 2018 to 2021.

The recipients of the Orders have been nominated by the public. The Government has subsequently supported the proposed names and His Majesty the King has made the formal decision.

The award ceremony will take place at the Royal Palace on 31 May.

Order of the Sword

The Royal Order of the Sword was established in 1748 and is awarded to military personnel who have made personal contributions to Sweden or to Swedish interests in the military field.
