Centre for Total Defence Logistics
The Swedish Defence University's Centre for Total Defence Logistics (CTL) is intended to strengthen knowledge and collaboration in logistics across both military and civilian defence.
Logistics and supply chains are critical to ensuring that society functions in times of crisis and war. At the same time, the conditions have changed significantly. Sweden’s NATO membership, a re-established total defence system, and an increased reliance on global supply chains place new demands on knowledge and cooperation. The Centre for Total Defence Logistics will help address these needs by developing research and education that are relevant to both military and civilian defence.
Strengthening societal resilience
A key focus is understanding how society can manage disruptions to supply chains and transition from peacetime to wartime conditions. This includes, for example:
- reducing vulnerabilities in global supply chains
- planning for transition in times of crisis and war
- developing robust and resilient systems
Bringing together logistics expertise
Research on logistics is already conducted across several disciplines at the Swedish Defence University. By bringing this expertise together within a single centre, better conditions are created for interdisciplinary work and greater impact.
The centre serves as a shared platform where different perspectives meet, ranging from War Studies and leadership to technology and societal security. Its activities are built around three core areas: research, education and collaboration.
