CTSS Quality management

The Centre for Total Defence and Societal Security (CTSS) conducts non-credit commissioned education and training. Since the Swedish Defence University’s quality assurance system covers credit-bearing education, the training provided by CTSS is quality-assured according to its own processes.

When a training need has been identified, it is normally a course coordinator who develops a continuing education plan (syllabus), which is approved by the relevant head of department at CTSS.

A Quality Council assures the quality of the continuing education plans, leadership concepts, and reports that are not peer-reviewed. The council comprises both academic and professional expertise. It is chaired by a professor emeritus, and several of its members hold positions as so-called collaboration lecturers. A collaboration lecturer is a senior lecturer employed within a subject area in cooperation with CTSS.

CTSS instructors include both researchers and practitioners, military and civilian personnel. The training programmes are delivered with a pedagogical approach based on seven didactic principles that promote so-called deep learning.

CTSS evaluates its courses, sometimes independently and sometimes in cooperation with the commissioning authority. These evaluations form part of the basis for the continued development of the training programmes.
