Organisation of security service and security protection

How are security services and security protection organised in today's society – and what is required to meet new threats to national security?

The research group Organisation of security services and security protection explores how responsibilities, cooperation, and protective measures are structured within both public and private sectors engaged in nationally sensitive operations.

Promoting national security

The term “organisation of security services and protective security” refers to the establishment, governance, and implementation of activities aimed at promoting national security – both at the central government level and across society. This includes internal and external security aspects for public authorities and companies responsible for nationally significant operations and infrastructure, encompassing personnel, physical assets, information, and digital systems. The research also examines practical procedures, accountability structures, coordination, oversight and follow-up mechanisms, as well as the strategic direction set by government and parliament.

As a research field, this area remains relatively undeveloped. Therefore, the research includes literature reviews, mapping international collaborative environments, and documenting existing organisations along with their procedures and practices. Nevertheless, there is a substantial body of relevant studies available in disciplines such as law, history, criminology, psychology, informatics, and computer science, alongside insights from public administration and political science.
