Leave from studies
If you as a student want to pause your studies and continue at a later date, you can apply for approved leave from studies.
Provisions on deferment of studies and approved leave from studies are regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance (HF) Chapter 7. Section 33 and in the Swedish Council for Higher Education's regulations (UHRFS 2013:3, with amendments 2016:1) on deferment of studies for admitted students and approved leave from studies.

Reasons for approved leave from studies
In order for your application to be approved, you must have special reasons. Attach certified certificates that prove your reasons when you apply for leave from studies, for example:

|---|---|
| Medical reasons | Certificate from health care/psychologist/psychiatrist |
| Conscription | Copy of the summons from the National Duty and Examination Board |
| Pregnancy | Certificates from the health care system |
| Caring for children | Certificate from the Swedish Tax Agency confirming that you are the child's guardian and that the child is no more than 480 days old when you start studying |
| Care of a close relative | Certificate proving that you are caring for a loved one |
| Student union assignment | Certificate proving that it is a full-time position. It must also be clear during which period you have the assignment |
| Temporary probationary period at the Swedish Armed Forces (Temporarily on duty GSS/T) | Certified copy of the employment contract and a certified copy of the decision/certificate stating the period of service |
| Other reason | Certified copy of certificate proving the reasons cited |
Studies at other universities
If you are admitted to and registered for exchange studies, you should not apply for approved leave from studies for the period you are on exchange. This also applies when you take elective courses at another higher education institution within the programme's elective semester in the Bachelor's Programmes.
Talk to a study counsellor
Please contact a study counsellor before you report leave from studies. This will help you plan your break and resume your studies. The study counsellors can also provide information about any changes in the range of courses offered.
During the leave from studies
During the leave from studies, supplementary courses and re-examinations may be carried out within the programme that began before the approved leave if possible. Those who are on leave from studies are responsible for notifying the study counsellor well in advance of the examination in order to temporarily have access to premises, support systems and get help with study planning and re-registration of current courses in order to be able to carry out the examination.
If you are a programme student without a special reason for approved leave from studies
If you plan to take a break from your programme studies even if you have not been granted an approved leave from studies, please inform studievagledning@fhs.se of your planned absence. Please use the form below.
Discontinued programmes and courses
If you have started a programme that has now been discontinued, you are referred to apply for a new programme or, if possible, to later part of the programme, and possibly apply to transfer credits to your previous studies when you have been admitted to the new programme.
You can complete courses that have started that are still active. If you want to re-register for a course, you submit an application to be re-registered: studievagledning@fhs.se
For information about active and discontinued courses and degree programmes, see Discontinued courses and programmes.
Appeal a decision
