If you wish to pause your studies and resume them at a later date, you may apply for a study break.

The Swedish Defence University may, in individual cases, grant a deferral of the start of studies or permission to resume studies following a study break.

Have you completed all the fields?

Fields marked with a red asterisk are mandatory and must be completed. You will receive a confirmation sent to your email address; if you do not receive a confirmation, the form has not been completed correctly.

Studies at other higher education institutions

If you have been admitted to and registered for exchange studies, you should not apply for a study break for the period you are on exchange. This also applies when you are taking elective courses at another higher education institution during the programme’s elective term in the Bachelor’s programmes.

Consult a study adviser

You are encouraged to contact a study adviser before applying for a study break. They can help you plan your break and the resumption of your studies. Study advisers can also provide information about any changes to the course or programme offerings.

During the study break

During a study break, it may be possible to complete supplementary assignments and resit examinations within the programme commenced prior to the break. Students on a study break are responsible for informing a study adviser well in advance of the examination date in order, where necessary, to obtain temporary access to premises and support systems, as well as assistance with study planning and re-registration on relevant courses in order to complete the examination.

For programme students without grounds for a study break

If you are planning to pause your programme studies without having an approved study break, you should still notify your planned absence to studievagledning@fhs.se. You are welcome to use the form below.

Resuming studies after approved study break

If you wish to resume your studies after a study break, you must notify the Swedish Defence University via the form below no later than two months before the start of the programme. The relevant date is stated in the decision on your study break.

If notification of resumption is not submitted by the specified deadline, a place on the programme can no longer be guaranteed; resumption may then only take place subject to the availability of places and resources.

If the programme has changed during your absence, you may need to complete supplementary requirements before or after resuming your studies.

Resuming studies after absence without an approved study break

To receive advice and guidance on your options for resuming and completing your studies, you should notify your planned return via the form below.

Whether it is possible to resume your studies depends, among other things, on whether the programme is still active and whether the programme or course has sufficient places and resources to admit additional students. You may only return subject to the availability of places and resources.

Discontinued programmes and courses

If you have commenced a programme that has since been discontinued, you are advised to apply for a new programme or, where possible, for admission to a later stage of a programme, and, if admitted to the new programme, you may apply for recognition of your prior studies.

You may complete courses you have already started if they are still active. If you wish to re-register for a course, submit an application for re-registration to: studievagledning@fhs.se

For information on active and discontinued courses and programmes, see discontinued courses and programmes see: Discontinued courses and programmes.
